A chef can’t cook with dull knives, and a girl certainly can’t apply makeup with bad makeup brushes. Everyone needs a set of basic brushes in their kit.
Where to begin? A powder, flat eyeshadow, crease, and blush brush are good starting points.
Powder Brush: A large, fluffy brush is compulsory for powder. It is also the most user-friendly brush for bronzer. Swipe across your temples and underneath your chin for easy contouring.
Blush Brush: The MAC 116 brush is the cream of the blush brush crop. The shape is perfect for blush application.
Flat Eyeshadow Brush: The most basic eyeshadow brush around. It is vital for consistent shadow application, whether you’re doing a smokey eye or just sweeping a little gold shadow over your lids.
Eyeshadow Crease Brush: Need a little depth in your makeup look? A crease brush paired with a dark espresso shade will make your eyes look much bigger. Pro tip: start the color in the center of the eyelid and blend outwards.
Eyebrow Brush: If you take anything away from this blog, you should be filling in your brows. This brush is my jam when I use it with my Zoey Van Jones eyeshadow powder [previous post link here].
There are a billion brushes you could potentially need, but these are the basics. Whether you’re a novice makeup artist or certified makeup aficionado, these brushes vital to any kit.
No idea where to start? Sephora has some great sets to get you started. Link HERE.
